Apple released the first developer beta of iOS 18.2, which includes this great new ChatGPT feature.
When Apple first announced the AI feature at WWDC, much was said about Apple Intelligence, including ChatGPT's integration with Siri. Sadly, like many other features, it was delayed until a later update for compatible devices.
Apple then released the first beta version of iOS 18.2, which included an upgraded Siri. One of the new features is that Siri can now scan screenshots and use the OpenAI program to find information about what it sees.
ChatGPT allows Siri to associate specific questions with OpenAI chatbots, but it can also read what is on the iPhone, iPad, and iMac screens. This feature is similar to Google Lens, where the user can ask Siri about something on the screen; Siri can take a screenshot and upload it to ChatGPT, which can then use its database to find relevant information and return it to the user.
This feature would be more useful for those who have not upgraded to the iPhone 16; Visual Intelligence performs a similar action, but can do it live through the camera rather than through a screenshot.
Apple has clarified how data is handled in the ChatGPT integration to help reassure those with data security concerns In communicating with OpenAI, only images and location data are sent to ChatGPT; OpenAI uses that data to It cannot train the model, but if you have a paid OpenAI account, you can log your data and requests.
More features will be added to the iOS 18.2 beta, including Image Playground and Genmoji. The latter allows users to create new custom emoji based on several factors, including the people in their contacts. Image Playground, on the other hand, uses AI to generate images based on text prompts and can use built-in suggestions and concepts. iOS 18.2 includes a redesigned Mail app with an upgraded visual design and AI-supported organization.
For now, these features are locked into the developer beta, but it won't be long before a public beta is released. All of these changes will help the iPhone remain one of the best phones on the market.
