Because the stars are really popping out this weekend in new movies and TV shows available on the best streaming services, including Netflix and Apple TV Plus.
New series include the spin-off “Dune:” Taylor Sheridan's “Landman” with Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm, and “Day of the Jackal” with Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch. In addition, the fan-anticipated “Cobra Society” Season 6 Part 2, “Silo” Season 2, and “Bad Sisters” Season 2 will all return.
On the film side, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez lead “Emilia Perez,” while Netflix's latest holiday rom-com stars Hallmark queen Lacey Chabert. Here's our guide to what to watch this weekend. Taylor Sheridan's hugely popular series “Yellowstone” is in its final season, but the Taylor Sheridan Television Universe is currently or soon to be airing numerous spin-off TSTU's latest is an oil industry drama based on the hit podcast “Boomtown. Oil is a multibillion-dollar business, and with that billions of dollars comes deception and danger. Crisis management executive Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton, and industry mogul Monty Miller, played by Jon Hamm, are not afraid to get their hands dirty to come out on top.

FX is the place to go if you want a well-made prestige historical drama. Having already had great success with “Shogun” earlier this year, “Say Nothing” is a worthy successor. Based on the nonfiction book by Patrick Radden Keefe, the miniseries is set in Belfast during the 1970s, '80s, and '90s, a time of violence and terror known as “the conflict.” Sisters Doroise Price (Laura Petticrew) and Marian Price (Hazel Doope) join the Irish Republican Army under the leadership of Brendan “The Dark” Hughes (Anthony Boyle) and Gerry Adams (Josh Finan). 1972, Jean McConville, a 10-year-old single mother, is kidnapped from her home and Ireland awakens to a harsh new reality that will permeate her daily life for decades.

Frederick Forsyth's political thriller novel, originally adapted into a 1973 film, updated for 2024. Eddie Redmayne stars as the Jackal, a talented and elusive assassin who carries out assassinations for a high fee. He runs world politics through his deadly work, but his family has no idea what kind of work he does. However, the Jackal soon meets a tenacious MI5 agent (Lashana Lynch) who causes a chase that brings ruin throughout Europe.

Prime Video turns to James Patterson's Alex Cross book for its next dad TV show. Starring Aldis Hodge, a brilliant D.C. detective and forensic psychologist who is able to delve into the psyche of murderers and their victims to identify and ultimately arrest the killer. After his wife is murdered and he is forced to raise his children, Cross and his partner, Detective John Sampson (Isaiah Mustafa), take on the case of a brutal serial killer. They must stop him before he creates a “masterpiece” of death and suffering.

“Silo” has quietly become one of the best science fiction series of the past decade. Let's continue where we left off last time. Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson), a mechanic-turned-sheriff, is still alive after being banished to the “dead world” outside the silos. She is shocked to discover that the silos are not only their own. She explores a ruin similar to the silos, with a community of 10,000 survivors. Although no one seems to be there, she runs into Solo (Steve Zahn) and begins to make more startling discoveries. Meanwhile, in Silo, Mayor Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins) and Robert Sims (Common) are revolting.

Was a second season of this wonderfully funny crime comedy/thriller really necessary? For my mental health, the answer is yes. The story follows the Garvey sisters, Eva (Sharon Horgan), Becca (Eve Hewson), Bibi (Sarah Greene), and Ursula (Eva Versteele), two years after they plotted to murder their brother-in-law, John Paul, aka “The Price”. It turns out that he actually died at the hands of his wife Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), with the help of their neighbor Roger (Michael Smiley). Now Grace is about to marry a nice man. But a gruesome discovery rekindles suspicions, and brave detective Una Houlihan (Tadia Graham) appears before the sisters.

The Miyagido and Washiki karate boys have left the Valley and arrived in Barcelona for the World Championships. Former rivals and now collaborators Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) have a tough assignment ahead of them, coaching their students in a grueling competition against the best dojos in the world. The new challenge is also faced by their nemesis, led by escaped convict John Kreis (Martin Cove).

Netflix's latest live event features Jake Paul against the legendary Mike Tyson in a heavyweight boxing match at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Problem Child, Jake “El Gallo” Paul (9-0, 1KO6), will take on the baddest man on the planet, Mike Tyson (50-6, 6KO44). This matchup is preceded by three fights on the main card: Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano (for the women's junior welterweight title), Neeraj Goyat vs. Winderson Nunes (six-round middleweight bout), and Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos (for the WBC welterweight title, 12 round).

The Oscar nominees include three strong performances by Zoe Saldaña, Carla Sofia Gascon, and Selena Gomez, the latter already in the conversation for Best Supporting Actress The latter is already being talked about as a Best Supporting Actress nominee. French genius Jacques Audiard wrote and directed this musical crime comedy based on his own opera script. Set in Mexico, it tells the story of four women in pursuit of their own happiness. The leader of a fearsome cartel (Gascon) enlists the help of an unfortunate lawyer, Rita (Sardinha), to fake her death so that he can transform himself into a woman. Emilia's new life, however, has a profound effect on his wife Jessi (Gomez) and their children.

Netflix has tapped the queen of Hallmark Christmas movies, Lacey Chabert, for a holiday romance film that is a little sexier than what is usually seen on the cable network. Chabert plays a widow named Cathy, who lost her husband two years ago and runs a diner in a small town. Thanks to a magic scarf, she magically brings a snowman to life. Luckily, Kathy finds Jack's clothes and navigates his new reality. And Jack helps her laugh, feel, and love again.
