According to DirecTV's announcement, the free service will provide access to over 70 select channels along with an on-demand library. The new service is available on Apple, Amazon Fire, Android, Roku, the DirecTV app, and mobile devices.

DirecTV states that it is working to acquire content from companies such as A&E, Fox, Lionsgate, and Scripps, and is expected to expand. In addition, it plans to add a Fremantle channel by the end of the year to offer more international content.
MyFree is free, but DirecTV has announced that it will offer paid “personalized” genre-based channels as an adjunct to its ad-supported service. This service will be offered at a lower price point, although the actual price point has not been announced. [Kent Rees, general manager of MyFree DirectTV, said in a press release, “DirecTV is excited to bring its successful history of premium content aggregation and enhanced user experience to free TV for the first time. The MyFreeDirecTV offering is the building block of our future as we move beyond the traditional pay-TV audience to reach an entirely new audience through this new freemium experience.”
You do not need to be a DirecTV subscriber to access the free TV channel. You just need to sign up for MyFree DirecTV using your email address and download the DirecTV app on your TV, phone, or tablet of choice.
According to Forbes, MyFree DirecTV services will enter the crowded ad-supported streaming TV market with more than 650 services in the United States at least through 2022 and beyond. Forbes noted that nearly 5% of streaming is done via free platforms like Tubi, Roku Channel, and Paramount's Pluto service.
DirecTV had a busy year in 2024, having already launched its “Your TV” service, which integrates favorite content and most-watched shows. The company also announced plans to merge with EchoStar, which owns Dish TV and Sling TV, a deal that could prove problematic, according to Reuters.
The company is also fighting several carriage fee battles with other companies like Disney, which settled with DirecTV two weeks later in September.
