Max is one of the best streaming services out there, and based on the 25 shows HBO and Max have announced, that's not likely to change anytime soon.
Just before the season finale of “The Penguin,” HBO released a new teaser trailer (which can be seen on YouTube). It also gave a glimpse of the many new and upcoming shows expected next year in 2025.
In total, HBO and Max teased 25 new and upcoming shows. Some of them, like “Dune: Dune: Prophecy” and “The Sex Lives of College Girls” Season 3, will air on Max as early as this Sunday. Also like “The White Lotus” Season 3 “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” which we already knew was coming next year, but were still excited to see Walton Goggins arrive in Thailand for “The White Lotus.”
But there were a few new announcements as well: a sneak peek of “Hacks” Season 4 was an announcement we hadn't yet anticipated, and we were officially intrigued by the miniseries “Task” with Mark Ruffalo.
Still, the most significant announcement from HBO came after the trailer was released. The trailer featured “The Last of Us” Season 2 and “Peacemaker,” but only yesterday (Tuesday, November 12) did it become clear when these two shows would air on HBO and Max.
Casey Bloys, CEO and Chairman of HBO and Max Content, announced in a presentation to select members of the press (h/t IGN) that “The Last of Us” Season 2 will officially arrive in “Spring 2025.” 2025, that is, early in the new year. We knew it was likely, but it's still exciting to see that the date has been narrowed down.
Broyles also revealed that “The Peacemaker” Season 2 will premiere in August 2025. As much as I loved season 1, I can't wait for season 2.
But that's not all that Broyles revealed. He also revealed that HBO will begin filming “Hibike! Euphonium” Season 3 will begin filming, and also confirmed that ‘all the actors are on board’ (h/t Variety). So the next time HBO does such a sizzle reel, we may see a sneak preview of the eight-episode Season 3.
