Apparently, Valve's new annual tradition is to release a limited edition Steam Deck OLED in time for the holiday season.

Last year it was a transparent handheld gaming console. This year, one of the best portable gaming consoles will get a white variant. The pale new deck is priced at $679, $30 more than the 1TB version of the regular Steam Deck; it has the same specs as the 1TB version, including a 7.4-inch OLED display, but this version will come with several different accessories.

The white version comes with white accessories including a white carrying case and a white microfiber cleaning cloth.

Valve states that this console will be limited to one per account. Valve stipulates that “these accounts must be purchased on Steam prior to November 2024 and must be in good condition.” The company announced that limited edition white versions will be shipped worldwide, provided Steam Decks are already available where they can be purchased.

Valve appears to be using the reaction to the white Steam Deck as an experiment to see how people react to different colors; Valve calls this its “second experiment along those lines,” referring to last year's transparent deck.

“We are watching with interest to see what the reaction will be and will use what we learn to inform future decisions when new color variations may be introduced in the future,” Valve said.

The company added that it has been “super pleased” with the handheld's reputation since the LCD version was released in 2022.

“We always intend to continually work on improving the Steam Deck, and that is true from both a software perspective (continually shipping improved versions) and a hardware perspective (the Steam Deck OLED, and ongoing work on the future of the Steam Deck and other hardware plans),” the press release continued.

The new Steam Deck colors will be available for purchase on November 18 at 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
