Sometimes we need to gamify our lives to motivate us to engage in physical activities such as walking or cycling. This is probably why Apple Watch fitness badges are so popular. Fitness awards are available for the best Apple Watch models to further increase motivation.
Apple is offering a new badge exclusively today, November 11, in honor of Veterans Day. This exclusive award can be earned by completing a workout of 11 minutes or more, whether it's running on the best treadmill in the best running shoes or a leisurely run on the best exercise bike.
The badge is a colorful pattern with a gold star at the top and what looks like an American flag motif.
Apple offers a variety of badges that can be collected in the Activity app, with a new one offered each month. Each month a new badge is offered, with varying requirements based on the intensity of the previous workout. Those who have been in the gym or on the trails may find it a little harder, those who are on a rest day or rest week, and those who have resumed working out may have their goals dialed down. You may also want to pause the activity ring.
Additionally, Apple has released a new Apple Fitness+ episode of its Time To Walk podcast, and there are plenty of classes on Apple Fitness+ that encourage you to close the activity ring on your Apple Watch. But it does a lousy job of displaying the difficulty level of its classes; the Time to Walk class is hosted by J.R. Martinez, a U.S. Army veteran, actor, and motivational speaker. In this new episode, Martinez reflects on his recovery from a life-threatening injury he sustained while deployed in Iraq.
There are many workouts out there, but here are a few guides to help you achieve 11 minutes while diversifying your workout. Some of the lighter ones include 12 minutes of Pilates, 15 minutes of yoga, and 20 minutes of walking. If you want to push yourself a little harder, intense box-pistol squats work wonders.
If you're interested in workout gamification, I recommend checking out Race Route and their guide on how to get the most out of it.
