Amazon has unveiled a stunning new version of its Echo Show smart home hub. With nearly twice the screen space of the popular Echo Show 15, there is tons of extra space to manage smart home devices, watch videos, and use all the other Echo Show features.
And it's not just the Echo Show 21 that's new; Amazon has announced a refresh of the Echo Show 15. While not a huge revolution compared to the existing model, the changes are smart and worth it if you don't already own an Echo Show 15.
The biggest draw of the Echo Show 21 is its overall size: at 21 inches, the display is larger than Amazon's previous smart home hub offerings.
But it's not just physically larger. According to Amazon, the Echo Show 21 offers immersive sound, twice the bass, and room-adaptive technology that makes it sound better than its smaller predecessor. We won't know how much the audio has improved until we try it out, but any changes would be welcome, as one of our main complaints about the device, including our review of the Echo Show 15, was the audio.
Additionally, Amazon has improved the camera, which should make video calls more enjoyable. The company added autoframing (as in the Echo Show 10), doubled the field of view, and increased the zoom by 65%. The hub also received noise reduction technology to eliminate background noise during calls.
The hub provides Matter and Thread, which power the smart home. However, the new model will support Wi-Fi 6E, which should be faster. Additionally, according to Amazon, several devices can be controlled locally, including lights, switches, and plugs, a feature introduced in 2024 with the Echo Hub.
The increased size makes the Echo Show 21 an effective place to watch the best streaming services, and the built-in Fire TV gives access to all the apps one would expect to find on the best streaming devices.
The price isn't cheap at $399, but it's an acceptable price considering the size and functionality of the screen; it comes with an Alexa voice remote control and wall-mounting tool and is ready to use right out of the box.
The Echo Show 15 has all the updates discussed above for the Show 21, with the exception of the giant screen. Like the previous Echo Show 15, it has a 15-inch screen. Otherwise, it offers Wi-Fi 6E support, Matter, Threads, and everything else.
It is essentially the same as the Echo Show 21, but smaller. It is also cheaper at $299 and comes with an Alexa Voice Remote and a wall-mounting fixture. [Currently, Amazon has by far the most products, with the Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8, and Echo Show 10, while Google has only two. However, there are many rumors that Apple will launch its own smart display within the next year.
