Netflix's new true crime drama has become one of my most anticipated shows of 2025.

A few years ago, while aimlessly scrolling through YouTube, I stumbled upon a 60-minute show about a deceptive wellness influencer named Belle Gibson and was fascinated by her shocking story. Apparently someone at Netflix saw the same video, and the streaming service has just released a new true-life drama about Gibson's rise (and subsequent fall) from grace after she claimed to have cured a terminal brain tumor.

The six-part show is called “Apple Cider Vinegar” and stars Caitlin Dever as Belle Gibson (in a rather impressive Australian accent); the Netflix logline says: “‘Apple Cider Vinegar,’ set in the early days of Instagram follows two young women trying to cure a life-threatening disease through health and wellness, and in the process, influence a global online community - if that's true.” The first teaser trailer can be seen below.

The upcoming Netflix show is inspired by real-life events, but the streamer emphasizes that it is ultimately a “work of fiction.” So expect a few extra twists to be thrown into the mix. Although, many may not be necessary. Gibson's story of pretending to have cured his brain tumor through natural remedies, alternative medicine, and clean eating is shocking (and a bit repugnant) and an early example of the danger and deception found in the realm of influencers.

Aside from my interest in the real-life events surrounding Gibson, another reason I'm seriously excited about this new Netflix show and put it high on my list of most anticipated TV shows of 2025 is the casting of Caitlin Dever. We've been impressed with this American actress on a number of projects (including Netflix's fantastic 2019 miniseries “Unbelievable”), and we're confident she'll shine again on “Apple Cider Vinegar.” In addition, Diver has also joined the cast of “The Last of Us” Season 2 as Abby, which could be a pretty big year for her.

“Apple Cider Vinegar” was created by award-winning author Samantha Strauss, who lived in Melbourne during Gibson's rise to popularity, and was inspired by Bo Donnelly and Nick Toscano's novel The Woman Who Fooled the World. In addition to Dever, the cast includes Alicia Debnam-Carey, Aisha Dee, Tilda Cobham-Harvey, Mark Coles Smith, Ashley Zukerman, Susie Porter, and Matt Nebel. Jeffrey Walker directed all six episodes.

Naturally, at this point you are probably wondering, “When can I watch ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’ on Netflix?” Unfortunately, the streaming company has yet to confirm a release date.

However, given that a teaser trailer has already been released, we can assume that it will be released sometime in 2025. Hopefully, this fictionalized version of Gibson's story will be as fascinating as the bizarre reality that inspired it.
