Netflix began production on “Havoc” in 2021. Now, however, a release date has finally been set for this Tom Hardy action thriller.
The streaming service released a first look earlier today at the upcoming Garth Evans-directed film, shortly after it was first revealed by Empire. While this first look doesn't tell us much more than that Tom Hardy looks amazing, it does reveal the official release window for “Havoc.”
Yes, “Havoc” will finally be released next year. In addition to Hardy, it is also thanks to a stellar cast that includes Zelia Mendes-Jones of “Fallout,” Forest Whitaker, and Timothy Olyphant. To be honest, Timothy Olyphant was a turn-off, but there is no denying that this cast is in place for a successful action thriller.
Evans' directing in particular is the main reason I am so excited about this Netflix film.
Evans is best known for 2011's The Raid. While not as successful as “John Wick,” those who love the genre adore the film on the same level as the Keanu Reeves franchise. Indeed, Yayan Ruhina, who starred in The Raid and The Raid 2, appeared in John Wick 3, which is considered a gun-fu film that pays homage to Evan's Indonesian action masterpiece.
So between Hardy leading a stellar cast and Evans behind the camera, I will be truly shocked if “Havoc” does not live up to the hype. Even if it took four years to finally get here.
Tom Hardy, the star of “Havoc,” plays Walker, a cop on a mission to rescue Johnny (Zelia Mendes-Jones), the nephew of the mayor (Forest Whitaker). To do so, he must navigate through the seedy underworld of the crumbling city, encountering much violence in the process.
Evans describes Hardy's performance as Walker as “intensely muscular” and says that this hard-nosed detective is basically “on cleaning duty.” We don't know much more than that, except for Evan's hint that Walker's assignment “hasn't worked out for a long time.” I can't wait for the first trailer to see how bad things get.
