One UI 7 Beta Released - New Features for Galaxy S24

After many delays and uncertainty about when the update would arrive, Samsung has announced that the beta version of One UI 7 is finally available to the public. Samsung Galaxy 24 owners can finally get a taste of what Android 15 will be like on their phones when the final version is released next year.

One UI 7 seems to have a lot to offer, but perhaps not surprisingly, Samsung's announcement is very focused on upgrading the update's AI. Samsung's goal is apparently to create “an AI platform that makes every interaction feel natural and intuitive. To that end, it is integrating multimodal features and AI agents “into every touch point of the interface.”

Needless to say, this update is going to be bursting with additional AI, but that's not all. There will also be major improvements to security and the look of One UI 7. Here are all of the biggest upgrades currently underway.

As of today, the One UI 7 beta is being rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S24, provided you are a member of the One UI beta program. It is not known at this time if the beta will be available for Samsung's older models, or even the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung says that the public version of One UI 7 will “begin with upcoming Galaxy S devices,” suggesting that the rumors are correct and that it will launch with the Galaxy S25 series in January. The update should then roll out to other Galaxy S devices at some point in Q1 2025.

Writing Assist: Samsung has added a new writing assist tool to the One UI 7 AI. Writing assistance tools are already available on Galaxy phones, but the point here is to expand and improve on everything that is already there.

This means that users will be able to use AI to summarize content, check spelling and grammar, and automatically format notes. All of this can be accessed by highlighting the text, without having to first navigate to another app.

Multilingual Call Recording: One UI 7 Beta will also include a call transcript that will automatically launch when call recording is turned on. This feature supports 20 different languages including Arabic, Chinese, English, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese. It supports 20 different languages, including Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, and more.

All-New Lock Screen: The One UI 7 beta is set to have a fresh, new design with an all-new notification system that is easily accessible from the lock screen. The software will recognize which notifications are more important and provide instant access to them.

Samsung has also added a “Now bar” to the lock screen, which looks like a sort of ever-changing quick access menu; One UI 7 “highlights relevant activities” without having to unlock the phone and go to the relevant app first Allow access.

Simplified look: Samsung has taken steps to reduce the “visual clutter” of the home screen. In short, the One UI 7 beta simplifies everything, including widgets, giving users “more fine-grained control” over the appearance of their home screen and helping to enhance customization options.

The camera interface is also getting a similar makeover, with Samsung reorganizing everything to make it easier to find different features and options. This is also happening with the Pro controls, with a simplified version of the manual settings menu, along with the addition of a zoom control option for Pro video.

Knox Matrix security upgrade: One UI 7 is called Knox Matrix, which provides “multi-layered, intelligent threat monitoring across connected Samsung devices” and is said to set “the foundation for the next frontier of security.” .

Monitoring is done through a private blockchain, the Trust Chain, and the new Knox dashboard allows users to see and control the security of their entire smart device network, including mobile, TVs, and appliances.

The update also includes “enhanced data protection,” making it easier to restore data stored in the Samsung Cloud. Essentially, this is a backup system that prevents data loss if a user loses a trusted device, allowing all data to be transferred to a new device as long as the user knows the passcode or pattern used to unlock the original device that was lost.

Samsung also added the ability to store passkeys in Samsung accounts, making logging into accounts and devices easier and more secure.

Maximum Restrictions Update: The One UI 7 beta adds new features to Samsung's Maximum Restrictions suite, allowing users to control their network connections without losing access to the phone's core area. These new options include blocking 2G cellular service and preventing automatic reconnection to unsecured Wi-Fi networks.

Maximum limits will also link to Samsung Messages and Gallery, remove location information from photos, prevent attachments from being automatically downloaded, and block hyperlinks, previews, and shared albums.

Anti-theft: Like Android 15, One UI 7 Beta also introduces theft detection lock, offline device lock, and remote lock. Samsung takes these measures a step further with an opt-in feature called Identity Check. It initiates special protection if the software believes your phone has been compromised.

Like iOS18, this prevents you from changing security settings in unfamiliar places until you bypass the authorization check, along with a new one-hour security delay that prevents unauthorized users from trying to make changes to your settings - you can remotely lock and potentially give you more time to wipe your device.

Other security settings: other security options include blocking USB connections when the device is locked and a Safe Install system that helps protect your phone from malicious apps.
