This next generation laptop could be the foldable display hybrid of my dreams!

Dual-screen folding laptops seem like the future, but the future needs a little more time in the oven. In any laptop, the distinctive keyboard and touchpad are basically all you need to get anything done. So what happens when you remove them for a giant screen?

Well, Digital Chat Station shared a new leak that a company (strongly implied to be Huawei) is working on new ideas in this area.

Integrated into the bottom half of the device, this motor will replicate (on paper) the tactile feel of pressing keys on a keyboard, allowing for ultra-thin laptop shells like the Huawei Matebook X Pro. It also works with custom silicon, which would mean Kirin if you follow the subtle signs that this company manufactures it.

Now let's cut to the chase. I'm convinced that the folding technology seen in phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be the next thing in laptops; large foldable displays like the HP Spectre Fold are cool, but their durability and price are questionable.

But what all of these different ideas agree on is the need for a physical keyboard and the true tactile feel of a touchpad. With something like a smartphone, one can spend less time typing on the screen. With a laptop, however, you could be typing for hours on end.

And does a haptic keyboard provide enough depth for extended use? I think not. What about a touchpad? The touchscreen interface is nice, but switching between typing and tapping is not as fast as navigating with your thumb on the touchpad.

And then there is Red Flag #2. Intel and Qualcomm have been banned from shipping chips to the Chinese tech giant, quickly turning it into the best laptop most people can't afford.

In other words, if Digital Chat Station's heavy hints that this is Huawei's handiwork are correct, we are looking at an in-house solution, and by extension, perhaps an interpretation of the company's own desktop OS, to get around the limitations that the company has devised in order to do so.

And while the company makes great phones like the tri-fold Mate XT, their fatal flaw has always been a neutered OS that does not access all of Android's services. Now imagine that on a laptop scale: ...... I don't think it's good.

But a lot of this is what has steered me heavily toward Speculation Station. On paper, it is clear that laptops are moving in this direction, and this is another innovative way to get there. Let's hope the company succeeds in landing on its feet.
