Netflix's New Action-Thriller Show Finally Available - 100% Rating on Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix is looking to end 2024 on a high note, and its new action thriller show already looks like a must-see.

The streaming service has upped its game when it comes to original programming, with the conspiracy thriller “Madness” currently dominating the charts at #1. However, the new show has been garnering unanimous critical acclaim right from the start and is bound to take the top spot.

Netflix's latest action thriller, “Black Dove,” is making a splash with a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Starring Keira Knightley as a wife and mother, as well as a skilled spy, the film is a thriller about a young man who is forced to take on the world's most dangerous spy. It's an exciting spy thriller set in Christmas London, so it's perfect for the season this month.

Here's everything you need to know about Netflix's latest action-packed thriller and what critics are saying about it since it launched.

“Black Dove” follows Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a smart, down-to-earth wife and mother who leads a double life as a professional spy against the glamorous yet dark backdrop of Christmas time in London.

For ten years she has been secretly passing classified information from her politician husband to the secret organization she serves, the Black Dove. But when her lover Jason (Andrew Cage) is killed, Helen is drawn into a dangerous game of survival.

Spymaster Reed (Sarah Lancashire) hires estranged friend Sam Young (Ben Whishaw) to protect Helen. Sam has been in hiding ever since a botched mission derailed his career. He is forced to confront his past in order to protect Helen from the threats looming around her.

As of this writing, “Black Doves” has a score of 94% from 50 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (which is quite impressive for a Netflix original). While this rating may change over time, such a strong start sets the bar incredibly high. And I can assure you that audiences will love this film just as much.

Says Kristen Baldwin of Entertainment Weekly: “The spirited Netflix thriller from Joe Barton (”The Lazarus Project") has a sharp comedic sense and a wild, It's a surprisingly fresh, exciting, laugh-out-loud thriller driven by fun performances.”

Meanwhile, The Age's Craig Mathieson was very impressed: Black Dove is the British spy thriller I didn't need. For it is both a story about a secret spy and a melancholic examination of desire.”

According to RogerEbert's Kaiya Shunyata, “From gunfights to tender love confessions, ‘Black Dove’ feels like a revelation in a genre that grows stale with each passing year.”

FandomWire's Matt Hambidge said, “A smart, twisty spy thriller. The stellar cast, led by Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw, further enhances an already strong script. And they elevate it from good to great by raising moral and ethical issues.”

Abe Friedanzer, of “Award Buzz,” described the show as “There are a lot of spy shows on television, but this action-packed and highly entertaining show definitely stands out from the pack.”

You can stream “Black Dove” right now on Netflix; the six-episode show was released all at once, so you can binge watch it over the weekend or this evening.

More good news: Netflix has already renewed “Black Dove” for Season 2, a clear indication that this spy thriller is expected to be fresh and exciting action at Christmas time.
