Google's Pixel tablet may be almost dead or continuing; at the end of November, two different reports claimed that Google had canceled the Pixel Tablet 2 or discontinued the Pixel Tablet 3.
As of this writing, there is no Pixel Tablet 2.
In any case, it appears that Google may abandon its tablet plans, with the Pixel Tablet 2 or Tablet 3 being the last Google tablet.
Currently, Android Authority is reporting specs for the Pixel Tablet 2. At first glance, it appears to be a modest but welcome set of improvements, including connectivity enhancements.
The follow-up tablet was apparently supposed to feature a tablet version of the Tensor G4 processor developed in partnership with Samsung. Next year's Pixel 10 will be powered by the in-house designed Tensor G5, manufactured by TSMC.
This was supposed to be a major upgrade over the Tensor G2, with improved processing speed and battery efficiency.
Google apparently intended to make a cellular model with the same 5G Exynos Modem 5400 as the Pixel 9 lineup; a Wi-Fi only non-cellular version would have also been available.
In terms of connectivity, the Pixel Tablet 2 was going to feature Thread, a network protocol for Internet of Things devices. This indicates enhanced support for smart displays and smart home controllers.
Otherwise, the LCD panel is the same size but has been upgraded to a 120 Hz refresh rate and appears to be slightly brighter. Similarly, the front and rear cameras will be slightly upgraded, with 10 MP lenses, and the rear camera will have autofocus.
The original Pixel Tablet was fine as a tablet, but not a laptop replacement. The sequel was said to support DisplayPort up to 4K.
According to Android Authority, Google was also planning accessories like a detachable keyboard and stylus.
Overall, most updates would have been a nice touch and would have made for a pretty decent tablet. However, reportedly, Google is worried that the tablet will not sell well.
As of now, both the Pixel Tablet 2 and Pixel Tablet 3 will either be canceled, or one will be canceled and the other will eventually be released.
