Fans of Netflix's hit show “Wednesday” have been eagerly awaiting updates on season two (as have I). News was scarce, but one major milestone has finally been reached - filming for the second season has officially wrapped.
Filming began in May, but since then there have been few updates. Of note is the unexpected announcement that Lady Gaga will join the cast, and behind-the-scenes hints of more “twisted” episodes. What we do know is that the show will ditch the romantic subplot for a darker twist.
Netflix has yet to announce an official release date, but by looking at the production and release timeline of the first season, there are ways to guess when “Wednesday” Season 2 will drop. Here's what we know (and can guess) about when we'll see Wednesday Adams and her dark and hilarious world again.
Filming for “Wednesday” Season 2 is officially over, and while that may seem like a step forward, it shows just how long the process of bringing this new season to life has been. While the end of filming is an important milestone, the show will now enter the post-production phase.
Looking back at Season 1, filming ended on March 30, 2022, but the show debuted on Netflix on November 23, 2022. This means that post-production took approximately eight months. If Season 2 follows a similar schedule, its release could be in late July 2025.
It is worth considering that Season 2 of “Wednesday” is expected to be even larger in scale than its predecessor and may take an extra month or two to complete post-production. Given that, the release date could be between July and September 2025. Of course, this is pure speculation and Netflix may surprise us with an earlier premiere (fingers crossed!) .
Despite the long wait, I am very much looking forward to the upcoming season. When production began on Season 2 of “Wednesday,” Netflix revealed a stellar lineup of new cast members. Some of the big names include Christopher Lloyd, best known for his role as the iconic Uncle Fester in “The Addams Family,” Joanna Lumley, Heather Matarazzo, and Billie Piper. With such a star-studded and expanding cast, it is no wonder that this season is taking so long to come together.
Hopefully we won't have to wait until the end of next year, as July 2025 seems like a solid time frame. If you're impatient like me, binge watch shows like “Wednesday” while you wait for the next season to start; you might want to revisit “Wednesday” on Netflix for a refresher; and if you're a fan of the show, you might want to check out “The Cure.
