It's the season of iPhone leaks, and the latest information suggests that Apple may be referring to Google for the upcoming iPhone 17 series. new photos of what is believed to be the iPhone 17 Pro frame have been released, and the Pixel 9 Pro, rather than the new iPhone It features a horizontal camera array that looks more like a house.
The possibility of Apple ditching its rounded square rear camera bump for a larger rectangle is one of the more wild rumors we've heard in recent months. Previously, Wayne Ma of The Information claimed that both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will get “rectangular camera bumps made of aluminum instead of traditional 3D glass” and that the bottom half will remain made of glass to support wireless charging The company claimed that the lower half would remain glass to support wireless charging. Now a leaker on Weibo has posted our first look at the new design, showing off what appears to be the iPhone 17 Pro's metal frame from the supply chain, as spotted by Android Authority.
It is unclear what is behind this change, but before the iPhone 16 Pro was released, there were several suggestions that the camera layout would be side-by-side to better support spatial video across all three lenses of the phone. Then, of course, the iPhone 16 series came along, proving that Apple's Pro models could handle spatial video with no problem in older setups.
If true, this redesign would be a significant departure from the triangular lens array Apple has used for its Pro line since the iPhone 11 Pro debuted in 2019. Noted leaker Majin Bu shared a rendering of the iPhone 17 Pro with a new camera array based on a leaked metal frame, showing how close this redesign brings the iPhone to something in Google's Pixel line.
We'll have to wait to learn more about Apple's plans, but it has already raised many eyebrows. Such a major overhaul, and one that resembles one of its main competitors, would be a bold move. But given how little we know about the “why” behind this possible redesign, it's best to take it with a grain of salt for now. Until then, be sure to check out our iPhone 17 hub for the latest rumors and leaks about Apple's next phone.
