Samsung Announces Galaxy Book 5 Pro - New Copilot+ PC with Intel Lunar Lake and “25-hour” battery life

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Book 5 Pro, its next Intel Lunar Lake laptop with Copilot+ and Galaxy AI capabilities. This follows the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360, but introduces a new “Galaxy AI-based ‘AI Select’ feature.”

The Galaxy Book 5 Pro announced in Korea will be powered by an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processor to support AI tools. The specific chip has not yet been announced, but we do know that it will support an NPU with up to 47 TOPS (trillions of operations per second). This is in line with many of the Copilot+ PCs introduced this year.

As for the “AI Select” feature, it works similarly to Circle to Search on Android phones like the Galaxy S24, allowing users to quickly search by drawing circles around images and text on the display. The Galaxy Book 5 Pro will also include Photo Remaster, an AI upscaling tool that can “convert low quality images into high quality images.”

Speaking of displays, the Galaxy Book 5 Pro will be available in two models: 14“ and 16”. Both will feature a Dynamic AMOLED 2X touchscreen. This display will also support what Samsung calls a “vision booster” for a clearer visual experience.

Interestingly, Samsung claims that this Galaxy Book will offer a whopping 25 hours of battery life. This is quite a claim considering that the previous generation Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360 lasted just over 12 hours in our tests. Could it be thanks to the Intel Lunar Lake chip? Only time will tell.

Samsung's latest Galaxy Book will include four speakers with Dolby Atmos support and several exclusive features for those with Galaxy smartphones and tablets. These include Quick Share for easy file sharing, Second Screen for extending or duplicating the displays of multiple Galaxy devices, and Multi Control for controlling devices using a keyboard and mouse/trackpad. [We are pleased to be the first to introduce the Galaxy Book5 Pro in Korea, which leads the way in Galaxy AI-based adoption in the growing AI PC market,” said Lee Min-cheol, Galaxy Eco Biz team leader at Samsung Electronics Co. We will expand the application of Galaxy AI to a variety of products to build an unrivaled AI ecosystem.”

We got our hands on the Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360 this year and were impressed by its lightweight design, excellent intel performance, great OLED display, and good battery life. Now that the Galaxy Book 5 Pro has already been announced, we expect similar benefits and new AI features, if not an upgrade.

The Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro will be available in Korea on January 2, 2025, in gray and silver. Pricing is still undecided, and it is unclear when this laptop will be available internationally; speculating from the Galaxy Book 4 lineup, it could appear in mid-2025.
