Google Pixel 9a specs have been leaked in a new report from Android Headlines.
We have included the full spec sheet obtained from wireless carriers and an unknown second source in the table below for easy viewing. However, we will discuss comparisons with the Pixel 8a later in this report.
First, some important pricing information: the AH claims that Google will keep the Pixel 9a at the same cost as the Pixel 8a, which translates to a base price of $499.
The Pixel 9a is 6.3“ and has slightly more screen space than the 6.1” Pixel 8a.
However, with the overall phone measuring 154.7 x 73.3 x 8.9 mm and weighing 185.9 grams, the 9a will actually be not much larger and slightly lighter than the 8a.
The 9a's display is still made of Gorilla Glass 3 material for scratch and drop resistance, and Google's Actua OLED technology provides a peak brightness of 2,700 nits. If these numbers are reproducible in real life, they are nearly double the numbers measured in the Pixel 8a's own tests.
The battery may be one of the biggest upgrades to the Pixel 9a overall, with a larger 5,100 mAh battery, a 13% increase over the 8a's 4,492 mAh battery, which is expected to significantly improve battery life The battery life is expected to be significantly improved. Charging capacity is expected to be boosted to 23W for wired
but will remain at 7.5W for wireless; befitting Google's previous stance over the Pixel 9's launch, there is sadly no Qi2 compatibility here.
It is no surprise that the Pixel 9a uses the same Tensor G4 chip as the regular Pixel 9 and Pro Pixel 9s. However, the 9a lags behind in RAM, with only 8GB instead of 12GB. Storage options remain the same as previous Pixel a series, with 128GB or 256GB versions offered.
Google may technically downgrade the Pixel 9a's main camera from the Pixel 8a, replacing the 64MP sensor with a new 48MP, f/1.7 one. This is obviously a lower resolution, but life has more than megapixels, so expect Google to be improving its camera output in other areas.
However, there will be no changes to the ultrawide and front cameras. They will maintain the same 13MP resolution as before.
The last important piece of information about the Pixel9a is that, like other Pixels, it will be IP68 compliant and adhere to the general water/dust standards for premium smartphones. In addition, color options include a choice of Obsidian Black, Porcelain White, Iris Blue, and Peony Pink.
The specs leak does not say anything about a release date for the Pixel 9a. However, keeping in mind the leaks so far, and speculating to some extent, the 9a will likely debut by May 2025 at the latest, or March at the earliest. And if it does launch, we'll be putting it through its paces to see if it means that Google will continue to reign supreme in our guide to the best budget phones.
