Motion Sickness While Using an Android Phone May Be a Thing of the Past - Here's Why

A recent APK gave us our first look at what the Android Motion Cue feature will look like before it is released.

The fear of motion sickness is always present when using a cell phone in a car. However, cell phone manufacturers have been working on ways to minimize, if not completely solve, this problem. Apple introduced Vehicle Motion Cues in iOS 18, and Google has been spotted working on a similar feature. And now it seems we have our first look at what this feature will look like when it is finally released.

The feature was spotted in an APK done by Android Authority and was able to get a functioning demo on one of their devices. According to the video, when the feature is enabled, a dot appears on the screen that mimics the direction in which the car is moving. This movement is intended to reduce motion sickness by reducing sensory conflicts between the eye and the motion perceived by the inner ear.

Unfortunately, this feature is not currently available in Play Services, and there is no mention of when it might be released. However, given the level of perfection that can be seen in the video taken with the current Google Play Services v24.29.32 beta, it is likely to be released in the not-too-distant future. It is also worth noting that Google hopes to make this feature available as soon as possible to compete with Apple's release.

This is not the only major change coming to Android phones, as Android 16 is currently in the works and could be released shockingly soon. Meanwhile, Samsung users are bracing for the next Galaxy Unpacked in January, which will see the release of the Galaxy S25 and the official unveiling of the One UI 7, according to leaks. Finally, Google appears to be working on a major upgrade to Google Maps to improve the user experience and make travel easier.

As with any APK, there is no guarantee that these features will arrive, and there are other ways to avoid motion sickness. The main one is to take breaks from looking at the screen while in motion. But this feature would make life just a little bit easier when using some of the best android phones on the move.
