Apple's next Vision Pro could be much cheaper.

Vision Pro is an expensive part of the VR/AR/XR arena, with prices starting at $3,500, which is out of reach for most people. Apple is aware of this and is working to lower the price for the next version.

According to a new report from Taiwanese research firm TrendForce, Apple intends to launch a next-generation Vision Pro and a less expensive, mainstream headset. The latter may be named “Apple Vision” and the “Pro” part of the name will be dropped. Apple would have to make some concessions in order to release a non-Pro version of the headset.

For the next generation Vision Pro, the report states that Apple will source components and parts from non-Sony suppliers to reduce production costs. By joining forces with other companies, Apple would be able to create competition and lower costs.

Apple CEO Tim Cook admits that the Vision Pro is not a product with broad appeal due to its high price. At $3,500, it's not a product for the masses,” Cook said. Right now, it's a product for early adopters. Right now, it's a product for early adopters. Fortunately, there are enough of them that it's exciting.”

However, if the company lowers its prices while releasing less expensive models, it could become a mainstream product. Apple's growing power in this area may attract the attention of companies like Meta, which is developing the Quest 3 virtual reality headset.

A TrendForce report states that Apple may include OLED displays or LCDs with LTPO backplane technology in more affordable models. They are a solid balance of performance and cost, and are necessary for the company to price its headsets competitively.
