The OnePlus 13R, along with the OnePlus 13, was announced to hit the global stage on January 7. However, the phone's pre-release Amazon India page (still live at the time of this writing) spoils several currently unannounced features, including that the 13R will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
With the OnePlus 12R using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, it makes sense for OnePlus to update to the next latest model in the lineup. the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is a great piece of silicon and Android chipset, the best of the year in terms of cell phones. However, its replacement, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, is already in the works and has already been confirmed for the OnePlus 13.
But that's not a problem, since the OnePlus 13R is designed to be a cheaper phone. For a phone that will probably cost several hundred dollars less than the 13, losing some performance is a reasonable trade. In fact, the use of an older chip may be a contributing factor to the lower price. As long as the other specs are not that much lower than the standard 13, the OnePlus 13, the loss of the latest chip could easily be forgiven.
Amazon's listing also seems to reveal several other features that will be included in the OnePlus 13R. Among them is AI Memo with options to tidy, paraphrase, or add text. Other mentions include AI image processing and intelligent search on the device to help you search for files.
The list also details highlights about the Photo Snapshot mode. This suggests that OnePlus has made some changes to the speed of the 13R's camera to better capture quickly moving subjects.
OnePlus has already confirmed that the 13R will feature a huge 6,000 mAh battery, a new display material in the form of Gorilla Glass 7i, a slightly smaller profile, two star-themed color options, and three rear cameras. All of these are encouraging ingredients for a bargain phone, and we can't wait to try this out when it goes on sale.
There are no secrets left to reveal about the OnePlus 13, as it already launched in China a few months ago. However, we can't guarantee that the 13's features will be the same across regions, so let's be careful not to speculate based on the Chinese spec sheet.
