The Samsung Galaxy S25 could end up with a pretty significant hardware upgrade, and like so many changes happening to phones these days, it could all be due to AI. Leaker Abhishesk Yadev claims that both Galaxy S25s will have 12GB of RAM - up from the 8GB included in the Galaxy S24.
Yadev also claims that the Galaxy S25 Plus will also come standard with 12GB RAM. Although not available in some regions, the S25 Plus comes with 8GB of RAM and is priced slightly lower. However, if this claim is true, then the days of the 8GB Galaxy flagship are completely over.
We have heard murmurs about this change in the past, and a leaked Geekbench listing showed benchmark scores for the 12GB Galaxy S25. However, given that Samsung is flagging the AI bandwagon, it is not surprising that it plans to increase the RAM available in the Galaxy S25 phone. Because Samsung is investing a lot in Galaxy AI and no doubt wants users to be able to use it properly. [The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus currently have 8GB of RAM and can run Apple Intelligence.
Google also boosted the Pixel 9's RAM to 12GB, making it easier to run Gemini Nano's on-device AI than the Pixel 8. So it makes sense for Samsung to follow that trend.
Yadev did not mention anything about the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which already comes standard with 12GB of RAM. However, earlier leaks suggest we may see the phone come with as much as 16GB of RAM; according to Jukanlosreve, the 256GB model will stick with 12GB of RAM, while the 512GB and 1TB storage options will up that figure to 16GB but.
No word on pricing. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S25 could add $110 to the manufacturing cost. Some rumors claim that the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset may play a role in the hypothetical price increase, but adding new hardware like additional RAM would certainly not lower the cost.
Unfortunately, we won't know for sure until the next Galaxy Unpacked, which is rumored to take place on January 22. Thankfully, that's just over a month away, meaning we won't have to wait too long until we know everything there is to know about the Galaxy S25 series.
