The holiday season will soon be upon us. But when it comes to choosing your next streaming experience on Netflix, it can be hard to know where to start.
A list of the top 10 most-watched movies on Netflix is a great starting point, but trust me, you're not alone. For example, “Subservience” is ranked #4, but this cautionary tale about AI sucks (only 48% on Rotten Tomatoes).
So, to help you choose which films deserve a watch list on the current Top 10 Netflix Movies list, I've compiled my favorites below. Note that this article is based on the Netflix Top 10 movie list as of Thursday, December 19 at 11:00 AM ET.
I knew the moment I saw the first trailer for Carry On that Netflix's No. 1 was set, so I'm not surprised that this festive-themed action thriller continues to dominate the platform's most-watched list, even a week after its release. The combination of a seasonal setting, an adrenaline-pumping storyline, and an impressive villain makes this the perfect film to watch now. Sure, it takes clear cues from “Die Hard,” but it's a pretty great source of inspiration.
Turgon Egerton plays Ethan, a young TSA agent going through one hell of a holiday shift. Working at LAX on Christmas Eve is bad enough, but when a mysterious traveler (played brilliantly by Jason Bateman) threatens to put a dangerous package through security, Ethan must race against the clock to stop a dangerous conspiracy from unfolding Ethan must race against time to stop a dangerous plot from unfolding. And in the process, he may rediscover his holiday spirit.

No movie needs more introduction than “Barbie. This plastic-wrapped comedy took the summer of 2023 by storm, with audiences around the world donning their best pink outfits and heading to the movie theater. Paired with “Oppenheimer,” Greta Gerwig's Oscar-winning film that sparked the “Barbie” craze was not just a box office blockbuster, but a cultural phenomenon. Now, it's on Netflix, and the fun can be had again.
It's easy to be cynical about a film like “Barbie,” but what's most impressive is that Gerwig (and writing partner Noah Baumbach) have created a comedy that is more than a stealth marketing exercise in child's playthings. Margot Robbie gives an excellent performance as the plastic doll at the center of the film, who faces an existential crisis (yes, this is the actual plot) and is on a mission of self-discovery. Ryan Gosling, however, totally steals the show as her male friend, Ken.

“We Millers” was released at a time when major studio comedies were in a rut, but this screwball film manages to inject some much needed freshness. It was not particularly original narratively or remarkably unique from a filmmaking standpoint, but focused on the basics: likable characters saying funny things at a steady pace. And it is in these core aspects that “We're the Millers” was so successful.
The film focuses on a small-town drug dealer named David (Jason Sudeikis). In order to clear his debts, he must smuggle large quantities of illegal drugs into the United States via the Mexican border. In order to cross the border discreetly, he hires a fake family (Jennifer Aniston, Will Poulter, and Emma Roberts) and heads south, but the journey fails at every turn. We Millers,” which also stars Ed Elms, Nick Offerman, and Kathryn Hahn, is full of memorable lines and gags.
