Netflix's Top 10 shows include three - one of them a gripping spy thriller

As any avid Netflix viewer knows, the streaming service is packed with countless movies and shows. With so many choices, it can be overwhelming to know where to start, and while Netflix's top 10 may seem like an easy solution, let's face it: there are so many choices that it's hard to know where to start.

Tom's Guide will bring you a hand-picked selection of the Top 10 shows that truly deserve your attention. This week, we have a critically acclaimed spy thriller starring Kiera Knightley, a dark comedy about a dream house turned nightmare, and a conspiracy thriller that divides opinion.

Spy thrillers can be fairly formulaic, so I went into “Black Dove” with fairly low expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the show actually breathed new life into the genre. The main reasons for this are the complex characters and the unexpected emotional depth. These are two of the reasons why this show has become one of my favorite thrillers of the year.

Set during London's glamorous but ominous Christmas season, “Black Dove” follows Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a brilliant and practical wife and mother who leads a secret double life as a spy. For ten years, Helen has been extracting sensitive information from her politician husband and passing it on to a secret organization known as the Black Dove. But her world comes crashing down when her lover Jason (Andrew Cage) is brutally murdered. Her spymaster, Reed (Sarah Lancashire), asks her old friend Sam Young (Ben Whishaw) to protect her.

Netflix's latest dark comedy, “No Good Deed,” landed on streaming a week ago today and is grabbing the No. 1 spot. While the show received fairly mixed reviews when it was first released, viewers seem to be enjoying this easy binge-worthy show starring Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano.

“No Good Deed” consists of eight 30-minute episodes and focuses on three very different families vying to buy a 1920s Spanish-style villa. The current owners, however, know all too well that their dreamy home will soon become a nightmare. The couple selling the house, Lydia (Kudrow) and Paul (Romano), are determined to hide the sinister secrets surrounding the property. But as the competition heats up and tensions mount, the two realize that the only way to truly move forward is to face the haunting truth they have avoided for years.

One show that held the number one spot for quite some time at the beginning of the month was “Madness,” which remains in the top ten. Starring talented actor Colman Domingo and full of twists and shocks, this clever crime thriller is perfect for those looking for the next one on the streaming service.

“Madness” follows political consultant-turned-media commentator Muncy Daniels (Domingo) as her life takes a dark turn when she gets caught up in a deadly conspiracy. To escape the stormy seas, Muncy spends his vacation alone in a remote cabin in the Poconos. However, her peaceful escape is turned upside down when she stumbles upon the murder of a notorious white supremacist leader. Muncy narrowly escapes, but his troubles are far from over. Evidence continues to emerge that makes him the prime suspect in the murder.
