When I first saw LG's Signature OLED T (truly transparent OLED TV), I never thought I would actually be able to buy one one day. However, LG has announced that the TV will be available at select retailers for just $60,000.
Don't get me wrong, if I had that kind of cash on me, I would jump at the chance to own one of the coolest TVs ever announced. Not only does the retractable Signature OLED R look boring, but considering that that concept cost $100,000, the transparent TV almost seems like a bargain.
Of course, not compared to the best TVs our team of TV testing experts recommend to shoppers. These days, you can get an excellent big-screen TV for under $1,000; it's hard to justify the 77-inch Signature OLED T to anyone, but LG knows that; like the OLED R, it will be made to order on a limited production line
and, like the OLED R, will be made to order. Still, what can we expect if we consider OLED T as our next TV? For one thing, it has a contrast filter that shrinks and widens to switch between transparent and general display modes. The idea is to leave the contrast filter deactivated while watching the latest shows with streaming movies that arrive on demand. And when you're not watching, you can enter an always-on display mode with the filter turned down for a truly mesmerizing effect that focuses on aesthetics. [If you already own an LG OLED like the LG C4 OLED TV or the LG B4 OLED TV, your navigation experience may look slightly different; the Signature OLED T comes with a custom cabinet that can be placed anywhere in the room, unlike wall-mount TVs
This is a revolutionary product.
Hopefully we will see this revolutionary TV up close and personal now that it is available for purchase. Whether or not it will be ready for standard testing remains to be seen.
