In 2021, after a decade of announcing new Galaxy S models in March, April, and May, Samsung did something a little different and announced the Galaxy S 21 on January 29. For the next few years, Samsung continued to stick to January or February announcements, and it has long been rumored that they will continue this trend until 2025, when they will unveil the Samsung Galaxy S 25.
Now we have a specific date in mind, thanks to the prolific and reliable leaker Evan Blass. The leaker has released a screenshot of an official-looking Italian teaser poster on his X account. It is private, but can be seen below, mirrored by another reliable leaker, Ice Universe.
The text is not exactly degree-level Italian, but what may not be immediately obvious is that “Gennaio” is “January.” This means Wednesday, January 22, 2025. This is not surprising since the last three winter Unpacked events have also been held on Wednesdays.
This is, of course, two days after Donald Trump takes the oath of office for the second time as president, making this a gamble of sorts for Samsung, as it will have to fight hard for media attention. But perhaps the company wants to release it as soon as possible to minimize the impact of potential upcoming tariffs.
More interesting than the already widely rumored date is the photo to the left of the text, where light shines through the corners of the four phones, which appear to display something much like the Galaxy AI logo.
This alone is not too surprising, as it is not too subtle a hint that the next Galaxy phone will have Galaxy AI, but this time it may come via Samsung's much-maligned Bixby. Interestingly, however, it was previously expected that only three models would be announced in January: the Galaxy S25, the Plus model, and the powerful Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Now it may be that this is only because three phones lined up like this do not make a logo and one is a duplicate. Or the fourth phone could be the rumored Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim. However, this is said to not appear until the summer, possibly as an exotic rebrand of the FE line.
This, of course, does not mean it is wrong, and if I had to guess, Samsung would simply tease the Slim at an event, promising a release later this year. Nonetheless, the look would be enough to make it feature as part of the poster, if correct, which is exciting as we may soon get an idea of exactly how thin it is, and feel threatened as Apple continues to work on the iPhone 17 slim if it should.
With only 35 days to go, Samsung's Galaxy S25 is of course not the first large phone to appear this year. Just yesterday, it was officially confirmed that the OnePlus 13 will be released globally on January 7. Both are likely to be the best phones of the year, and 2025 is off to a strong start.
