LG has announced exciting updates to its 2025 QNED TV lineup that showcase the high potential of its new dynamic QNED color solution and a8 AI processor.
The first of these is the flagship QNED TV, the QNED9M, which brings together all the best features found in LG's premium TVs. This even includes the Zero Connect box, previously exclusive to OLED M-series TVs. This makes the QNED9M completely wireless except for the power cord and delivers outstanding 4K picture quality at 144Hz refresh rate without lag.
Included in the QNED9M are attractive upgrades that LG has in store for its 2025 TV lineup, such as a souped-up Alpha 8 AI processor and an all-new panel technology in the so-called Dynamic QNED color solution. This new design replaces the previous quantum dots and is intended to infuse the 2025 QNED with more vibrant colors expressed directly from the backlight.
Expect additional information and actual products in the coming weeks at CES 2025, which officially opens on January 6.
While mini-LED and QLED TVs have been a big gainer in the TV market, LG is taking the design of its latest set a step further by adding a new wide gamut panel technology it calls Dynamic QNED Color Solution. By replacing quantum dots, the new technology aims to enhance the expressive power of the backlight and bring colors to life.
Something similar can be seen in TCL's Mini-LED TV lineup this year, with the new nomenclature of QD-Mini-LED TVs. However, the technology is slightly different, with LG's QNEDs clearly focusing on broader and better color; LG even claims that Intertek has certified 100% of the entire 2025 LG QNED lineup to display distortion-free color and rich vividness
.
Of course, we won't know if these TVs are really accurate until we test them, especially the QNED9M, the flagship of the QNED evo lineup, which is usually only found in the ultra-premium LG M series, like this year's M4 OLED TV The QNED9M also features a 144Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync Premium certification, making it potentially the best gaming TV next year.
However, it is still too early to tell if the QNED9M will be among LG's best TVs. In our tests, the LG B4 OLED recorded the lowest Delta-E score this year.
But it's not just color that LG has in mind, and AI in particular is very important (and it's not just LG) At the forefront of the QNED lineup is the new Alpha 8 AI processor, often abbreviated simply as “a8.” LG is working on a 2024 LG TV lineup, claiming a 70% improvement in AI performance over the 2024 LG TV lineup, with enhanced sound, upscaling, and image correction
.
LG places the most emphasis on sound enhancements through AI, claiming that it can convert 2-channel sound sources into a virtual 9.1.2 channel system to improve audio immersion. Typical sound enhancements, such as dialog boost and background noise reduction, are also expected to be greatly improved.
In terms of image quality improvements, the a8 chip will allow for more advanced upscaling and image analysis. This will make it easier and faster to deliver more natural scenes without noise or degradation, especially in content below 1080p that is upscaled to 4K.
AI will also be included in LG's Magic Remote. It will come in the form of an AI button, which, according to LG, will be able to make recommendations, preferences, and answer questions about what is playing on the screen through both long and short presses. It will also include an undisclosed large-scale language model (LLM), which will be able to suggest content when asked certain questions and provide answers tailored to your preferences.
Thus, it is clear that LG will not be retiring Magic Remote anytime soon. Of course, webOS will also be included in the 2025 LG QNED. The ongoing webOS Renew program will keep these TVs up-to-date for up to five years.
With CES 2025 just around the corner, we can expect to see QNED9M TVs on the show floor along with LG's other new QNED lineup and OLED innovations.
