Netflix's “Squid Game” is not for the faint of heart. So it comes as a bit of a shock when Song Ki-Hoon, aka Player 456, played by Lee Jung Jae, chooses to return to the dangerous competition of “Squid Game” Season 2 with a new group of rivals.
And ahead of the new episode streaming on Thursday, December 26, show creator Hwang Dong-hyuk speculated whether any of the famous Marvel movie characters could be like Gi-hoon and survive the game.
At Netflix's Season 2 premiere event in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 12, the hit show's director said that Tony Stark (the billionaire superhero played by Robert Downey Jr. in Marvel's “The Infinity Saga”) is a deadly revealed to People that he believes he will do well in the competition.
“Iron Man - without the suit,” Hwang told the outlet, referring to the iconic, gadget-heavy armor that Stark wears throughout the Marvel films.
Tony Stark's smarts will undoubtedly be a boost in this high-stakes competition that pits players against each other to survive in deadly versions of classic children's games like Red Light, Green Light, and Tug of War. For the second season of the Korean series, Hwang expanded the variety of games, some of which could not fit into the already packed first season.
“There were a few [games] left off the list of games we came up with for season one,” he told People.
“So it wasn't that hard to come up with new games, at least for Season 2.”
As for which of the show's signature games he himself would excel at, he said fans would pick the famous Honeycomb Challenge (in which contestants are challenged to carve shapes out of dargona using a needle without breaking the honeycomb candy). Do you think so?
Unfortunately, we won't get to see Tony Stark or Juan himself on screen when “Squid Game” Season 2 arrives on Netflix on December 26, but Giffen and the other contestants will certainly be up for plenty of action this time around.
The official synopsis for the second season reads: “Three years after winning the Squid Game, Player 456 is determined to find the mastermind behind it and put an end to the vicious squid game. Song Ki-hoon uses this large sum of money to fund his search, starting with the most obvious: finding a man in a sharp suit playing dakjis on the subway. But when his efforts finally bear fruit, the road to destroying the organization proves more dangerous than he had imagined.
