Nintendos 2 rumored to be announced in January - “latest AAA” games can be played.

It is looking increasingly likely that Nintendo will announce the Switch 2 in January. Just yesterday, a Reddit user claimed to have played with the console and said Nintendo will announce it next month.

Another rumor, possibly from a major third-party game developer, claims that Nintendo will announce the console in January 2025 and play “the latest AAA titles.” I say potentially because I have not heard this directly from developers. Instead, NintenTalk on X claims that sources from “major third-party” developers have spoken with them and said that January will happen.

Other leakers and rumor mongers have suggested that January is when the Switch 2 will be announced, but until Nintendo officially announces something, we cannot say that is when the console will be announced. Even if more credible rumors come to light, these are still rumors that could change.

When Will the Switch Arrive at Your Door? Assuming Nintendo announces the console in January, it could be released in March 2025. Nintendo announced the first Switch in January 2017 and released the console on March 3, 2017. If the company follows the same pattern, the new console could be released in early March.

As for games, the Switch 2 appears to be more powerful than the original, as the purported developer cites “the latest AAA titles” coming to the platform. The original Switch existed in its own space with a large amount of first-party games and third-party experiences designed for this console, but if Nintendo launches a console that is compatible with AAA games, we will see a more extensive library of the best video games on Switch 2 on day one as well would be available.

There is also word that “Mario Kart 9” will be coming to the Switch 2. This is Nintendo's first party game, but still quite exciting. A big release like the new Mario Kart would help get the console back on track.

Another rumor suggests that the Switch 2 will be significantly redesigned, including being similar in size to the Steam Deck. Taken together, these rumors and leaks paint a picture of the larger, more powerful console that gamers have always wanted from Nintendo's hybrid console.

If these rumors are genuine, the next few weeks should be exciting for Nintendo fans. Nintendo will probably tease the launch of the Switch 2 before officially announcing anything, so we won't have to wait too long.
