Prime Video Drops Four “Indiana Jones” Movies This Month - Here's One to Watch

The first four “Indiana Jones” movies will no longer be available on Prime Video; as of December 31, 2024, the classic tale of treasure hunting and ancient mysteries will no longer be streaming on one of the best streaming services. If you've been wanting to dive back into an iconic franchise or revisit a favorite, now is the time to see these classic gems before they disappear.

Since their debut in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark “Ark of the Covenant,” the “Indiana Jones” films have become a hallmark of action-adventure cinema. Of course, the latest film doesn't hold a candle to the original three. Yes, we are talking about “The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” and “Dial of Destiny.

But don't worry. If you only have time to see one Dr. Jones adventure, there is an outstanding film that deserves your attention. Whether you're a longtime fan or you've somehow missed the film, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” captures the essence of the franchise, and here's why it should be at the top of your Prime Video streaming list before its distribution ends at the end of December

“The Lost Ark

Few films can match the thrill of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Yes, it's the film that launched a legendary franchise, but it's also my personal favorite of the original three (let's not mention the last two, sorry). It's a movie I've seen countless times with my father, usually in an impromptu TV marathon.

For those who need a refresher, in brief, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” begins with Indiana Jones retrieving an ancient relic from a booby-trapped jungle temple. Soon after, the U.S. government engages Indiana Jones in an even greater mission: to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis do. Along the way, Indy teams up with Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), a hot-blooded, witty former flame who soon proves she is more than just a sidekick.

The magic of “Raiders” begins with its hero. Indiana Jones, played to perfection by Harrison Ford, is a whip-smart archaeologist who is as smart and fearless as he is flawed. The iconic opening scene (so beloved that it was recreated in the “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” game) sets the tone for everything that follows. Arrows fly, walls begin to crumble, and the next thing you know he is fleeing for his life from a giant rock. It's still harrowing, but so much fun to watch. This mix of danger and excitement with humor is what “Raiders” does best, and why it is my favorite in the series.

“Raiders of the Lost Ark” is full of memorable moments, with some of the most iconic scenes recreated in everything from video games to an action-packed stunt show at Disney's Hollywood Studios (yes, I've been there several times). When thinking about the film, one of the truly memorable scenes is when Indy tries to stop the Nazis from flying the Ark out of Egypt.

There is the tension of the spinning airplane propellers, a constant reminder that this battle is literally life or death. The way this scene builds to a brutal climax (the mechanic is accidentally caught in the propeller) is as satisfying as it is shocking.

Another iconic moment is the unforgettable bar fight in Nepal. Marion's entrance is truly brilliant, outshining the strong local men in the shot game. She is tough and resourceful and does not hesitate to jump into the fray when the Nazis storm her bar. Watch her and Indy argue and fight shoulder to shoulder against flaming chaos. Pure gold. Even after all these years, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” is still a blast. It's the kind of movie that reminds you why you love movies in the first place.

If you haven't experienced the “Indiana Jones” movies yet (or if, like me, you want to see them again), now is your chance to stream them before they disappear from Prime Video on December 31.

Whether it's the classic (and my favorite) “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the action-packed “Temple of Doom,” or the thrilling “The Last Crusade,” these films are the perfect escape. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” also leaves the streamer, but I don't mean to completely bash it, as it has some pretty thrilling moments. However, as one of the weakest films in the franchise, I would skip it and stream the first three films instead. But most of all, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” is simply fun. It's a film that doesn't take itself too seriously, yet offers some of the most exciting sequences I've ever seen on screen.

I've already seen these films and want something else. Check out five of the best sci-fi thriller movies on Prime Video right now. This weekend you can also stream these miniseries on Prime Video.

Stream the first four “Indiana Jones” movies now on Prime Video before they end their run on December 31, 2024. You can stream “Dial of Destiny” on Disney Plus.
