Android 15 makes some important fixes for Pixel phones.

Google has released its second developer beta for the next, and possibly last, quarterly Android 15 release.

There has been a fair amount of news about Android 16, especially regarding its earlier-than-expected release. However, that does not mean that Android 15 is done and dusted.

Google recently released the second beta of the upcoming Android 15 Quarterly Platform Release 2 (QPR2) for eligible Pixel devices. This builds on the features and updates released in both the Android 15 and QPR1 releases.

This new beta focuses more on bug fixes than features, and a detailed list can be found in a Reddit post. Some fixes include resolving a null pointer issue that caused some devices to crash or restart unexpectedly.

The update also resolves an issue where the “Limit to 80%” option in the charge optimization settings was not enabled. The beta notes also state that an issue with the external blood glucose sensor not being recognized has also been fixed.

The new update is available for all eligible Pixel phones, from Google Pixel 6 to Pixel 9. The update is also available for the Google Pixel Fold, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel tablet devices.

You must be registered for the beta to register, but note that it may take up to 24 hours for the update to take effect on your device. To check for updates, head to Settings > System > System Update.

Google is working to change the update release schedule in the future. A recent report revealed that Android 16 will be released in the second quarter of 2025, reducing the number of quarterly updates for Android 15.

Not only will Google release Android 16 earlier than expected, but it also appears to be planning to release a small SDK in Q4 2025, although it is unclear what form this update will take.

While the new update may be feature light, it is welcome to address some of the more annoying bugs found in Pixel phones. It also sets the stage for Android 16 on some of the best Android phones.
