Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025: expected release date of Samsung Galaxy S25 and more

While there is still no official confirmation of a January 2025 Galaxy Unpacked, rumors suggest that Samsung's next big product showcase will take place early in the new year.

Samsung usually unveils its latest flagship device at its first event of the year. This time around, the Galaxy S25 lineup will be unveiled, and we are already hearing rumors about what is planned for these new models. However, there are certainly some fascinating possibilities regarding the products that could join the S25 phones at Galaxy Unpacked 2025.

It is not too early to start thinking about Unpacked 2025 now. Recent launch events have taken place in the first two months of the year, and the 2024 edition that brought us the Galaxy S24 came particularly early. Samsung is unlikely to move the date any earlier, unless it clashes with the big CES trade show in early January, but a mid-month event is definitely likely.

Here is a closer look at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2025, including when Samsung might hold a product launch and what it might showcase at the event.

Samsung has not announced a date for its next product event, but the company's recent history gives us an idea of when Unpacked will take place: it began on February 7 in 2022, February 1 in 2023, and last year it was on January 17. Most Samsung watchers believe the company will stick to January again in 2025.

In fact, news out of Korea claims that Samsung's next Unpacked event will be around January 23. This would be a Thursday, a normal day of the week for Unpacked; Unpacked in 2023 and 2024 were held on Wednesdays. If so, it would be held on January 22 in the U.S.

Samsung's last two January Unpacked events have been held in Northern California, San Francisco in 2023 and San Jose this year. the date of Galaxy Unpacked 2025. The report listed states that the next event will be held in San Francisco again.

Samsung will almost certainly live stream the next Unpacked event, but it is too early to provide specific information. However, you can certainly watch Galaxy Unpacked 2025 on Samsung's YouTube channel.

Flagship phones usually lead the announcement parade at the first Unpacked event of the year, and 2025 is unlikely to be any different.

Samsung is almost certain to announce the Galaxy S25 family at Unpacked, and has already confirmed that the new model will be available in early 2025. We expect Samsung to offer the same models that normally make up the company's flagship lineup, namely the Galaxy S25 Plus and the premium Galaxy S25 Ultra, plus standard phones.

Samsung has confirmed that it will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and leaked sources suggest that Qualcomm's new chipset will be included in all models. This differs from this year, when Samsung used a mix of Exynos and Qualcomm silicon in the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. (This is because when the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset was benchmarked on a reference device provided by Qualcomm, it showed overwhelming strength in speed and graphics tests. It is also a more power efficient chip, which could significantly improve the battery life of S25 phones.

On the camera front, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could see an upgraded ultra-wide sensor and an improved telephoto lens that promises smoother zooming; changes to the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus cameras may be more modest.

The Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus may see a new camera with a new, more compact, and more compact camera.

The Galaxy Unpacked is expected to once again focus on AI features. Samsung announced Galaxy AI features at Unpacked in January 2024, which played a major role in differentiating Samsung's flagship smartphone from other devices. Specific details have not yet been leaked, but it is likely that we will hear about new Galaxy AI features at Unpacked in 2025.

Other changes could include the introduction of Qi2 wireless charging to the entire S25 lineup. This would give Samsung iPhone-style magnetic charging, something that Android rivals have yet to adopt.

Samsung is rumored to be working on another member of the Galaxy S25 family, an ultra-thin version dubbed the Galaxy S25 Slim. So far, the rumored device will feature a dramatically thinner profile than other Samsung flagships; given that the S24 is 7.6mm thin, it is speculated that Samsung will try to make this new phone similar in size to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 . That foldable phone is 5.6 mm thin when unfolded.

Another Galaxy S25 Slim rumor claims that this new phone will feature a 200MP main camera and match the key hardware specs of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This could suggest a phone priced closer to the $1299 Ultra than the $799 standard model. Other details, such as the chipset Samsung will use, are less clear at this stage.

Korean newspapers have suggested that the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 date is January 22/23, and also claim that the S25 Slim will appear at that event. This is in contrast to other Galaxy S25 Slim rumors, which claim that the Galaxy S25 Slim will debut at a separate event in late spring or early summer.

Rumors of a cheaper Samsung foldable phone have been swirling for some time now. At one point last year, we heard talk of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE, which was supposed to debut at either the 2024 or 2025 Unpacked event, then alongside Samsung's regular foldables.

Talk of a lower-priced Galaxy Z Fold has died down, but rumors of another lower-priced foldable have surfaced instead. Samsung may be preparing the Galaxy Z Flip FE, ideally offering a lower-priced version of its $1,099 foldable flip phone.

There are few specific details about the Galaxy Z Flip FE, other than the claim that it will appear at some point in 2025. However, like the Galaxy S25 Slim, most of the rumors suggest that the release date will be later this year, rather than at the Unpacked event in January. Still, there are possibilities for new models that we are keeping an eye on.

Let's talk about what is almost certain to be announced at Unpacked 2025, if only because it is already linked to the Galaxy S25 announcement: Samsung's long-awaited One UI 7 interface based on Android 15, which will launch alongside Samsung's new Since it is scheduled to be released, we may see this software show its face at Unpacked, especially if there are new features that need to be highlighted.

Samsung has so far only teased One UI 7, promising new interface elements and more integration of Galaxy AI into everyday activities. Rumored additions include a notification summary feature and an enhanced version of the Circle to Search tool that Samsung introduced on the Galaxy S24.

We may get to know what's in the One UI 7 ahead of the Galaxy Unpacked and S25 launch. Rumor has it that a beta version will be available at some point in November.

The original Galaxy Ring just started shipping in July, so even if the rumor is that Galaxy Ring 2 will arrive sooner than originally thought, it would be too early for a sequel.

Samsung previewed the first Galaxy Ring at Unpacked in 2024, so it is possible that the company will make time for an update. Otherwise, the Galaxy Ring 2 is rumored to be a thinner model with longer battery life and unspecified new features.

At Unpacked 2023, executives from Qualcomm and Google took the stage to announce a partnership with Samsung on a mixed reality platform that will likely result in new hardware like headsets. By this summer's Unpacked event, Google and Samsung had promised a 2024 debut for the platform, and attention immediately turned to a mixed reality headset manufactured by Samsung and powered by a Qualcomm chip.

That headset was pushed back to a 2025 release, with one report claiming it could debut in March. Even if that date is accurate, we may see a preview during Unpacked 2025.

Samsung may also have another mixed reality surprise in store. Earlier this fall, Qualcomm's Cristiano Amon suggested that the trio was looking into the possibility of smart glasses, but that project may not be as advanced as the rumored headset.
