Wordle's winning streak is the pride of many players around the world, and while high scores are great, they are the cherry on top of progress. That's because today's Wordle answer (#1,244, Thursday, November 14) is very formidable.
In fact, Tom's Guide's resident Wordle player called today's puzzle one of the hardest puzzles of 2024. So it is no wonder that many people's winning streaks are broken today. In the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it is as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
WordleBot, an in-game AI helper tool, analyzes your game after you play and does the same for everyone else. According to the bot, the average player completes puzzle #1,244 in 4.9 moves on easy mode and 4.5 moves when playing on hard rules. So, actually, it's not that high (the score for puzzle #454 in September '22 was 6.3).
If you keep reading, I'll assume you're satisfied with knowing the answer to today's Wordle score: UVULA.
Right? Me too.
I know it sounds like I'm making this up, but it actually makes sense. I googled it, and WebMD says it's “the soft, droplet-like tissue at the back of the mouth.”
The answer begins with UVU, which is rarely found in other words. It is enough to stump even the most hardcore players. Needless to say, most people have probably never even heard of it.
Predictably, there has been a lot of concern on social media; #Wordle1244 is even trending on X.com.
Many players are not satisfied with today's answers, and commentators have noted that recent Wordle answers have been very difficult.
This is because the game has been going on for several years and the easy words have been mostly used up.
The impact of today's puzzle was felt around Tom's Guide HQ, with many teams fouling out and losing their hard-earned winning streaks. Here are some comments from a colleague who was playing Wardle.
“I play Wordle every morning without fail, and I like to think I have it down to an art form, but when I found myself this morning guessing five with only three yellow tiles in, I sincerely felt a little unfairly treated by the NYT. The little dopamine hit of getting “Wordle” turned out to be crucial to starting my day off right. I treated myself to a latte for comfort.”
Meanwhile, Nikita Achanta, one of our review writers, also suffered the consequences of having her winning streak broken. [It was pretty sad because it had been a 45-day winning streak, and I feel like the last few days Wordle has been pretty hard.
She said.
One team member, however, was on a losing streak. Alix Blackburn, our resident streaming writer. She said, “I don't do Wordle, but I guessed the hardest word four times. What a flex.
If you are one of those who lost a string of puzzles today, I'm sorry to hear that. Let's try again tomorrow.
