Android users can finally back up their health data and transfer it between devices.

Google has secretly updated the Android Health Connect feature, finally allowing users to easily transfer data between devices.

Health Connect serves as a centralized hub for all data stored from health and fitness apps on Android. Originally a proprietary app, it became a central part of Android 14 and then Android 15. However, there was one major problem with this feature. There was no tool to back up or restore user data. This meant that when changing devices, health profiles had to be slowly rebuilt.

Google is reportedly working on a fix, and according to a recent report from Android Authority, this feature has now been rolled out. The update adds an option to backup and import user health data as a ZIP file. It should be noted, however, that there is no manual backup option. Instead, users can schedule backups daily, weekly, or monthly. The app uses Google Drive or other cloud storage services to store data and transfer it to new devices.5]

To enable backups, go to Settings > Security and Privacy > Health Connect > Manage Data Health Connect > Manage Data. In this menu, you can back up and import data. Backups can be turned off, and old files are not deleted from the cloud. However, this feature does not appear to be fully functional yet; the Android Police team has found the app exporting empty ZIP files as of this writing.

The changes to Health Connect are significant for fitness-focused Android users, but nothing compared to the upcoming release of Android 16. The next Android OS is likely to arrive much sooner than expected and could be released in June 2025, according to leaked information. The new update will bring a wealth of new features, including upgraded multitasking, upgraded notifications and quick settings menu.

Health data export and import capabilities will further ease the transition to the new phones. This is great because Black Friday is fast approaching and is a great opportunity to get the best Android phones at discounted prices.
