Last week we heard that Apple will release its second generation Vision Pro headset in 2025. No additional details have been obtained other than the fact that it may run on a more powerful chip (possibly the M5). Now, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has more details on this hypothetical launch, as well as an expected arrival date for the Apple Vision Pro 2.
In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Gurman claims that the Apple Vision Pro 2 would be released between fall 2025 and spring 2026. This is a rather large release window, and somewhat less hopeful than previous reports about the headset's production schedule.
Again, there are few details about the headset; Gurman himself has previously stated that Apple will likely upgrade the headset's chip, and analyst Ming Chi-Kuo has said that to avoid looking outdated on day one, the as yet unreleased M 5 chip, he predicts. Hopefully, this release window means that the Vision Pro 2 will appear not long after the first wave of M5 MacBooks.
Unfortunately, Gurman notes that the headset will probably look almost identical to the existing Vision Pro. So if there is something about the current headset's appearance that you really don't like, you may have to wait a little longer to resolve it. I just hope Apple admits its mistake and removes the EyeSight feature. It's a little too creepy for my taste, and maybe removing EyeSight will bring the price down a few bucks.
Garman also noted that Apple is likely working on other products for the Vision product lineup. We have already heard that smart glasses connected to the iPhone may be on the horizon in the near future.
Just don't expect a low-cost version of the Vision Pro anytime soon; according to Kuo, that headset is likely to be available no later than 2027 at the earliest, and given that Apple experienced multiple delays with the original headset and its sales reputation was quite weak, it is unlikely that it will soon It is unlikely that the headset will be sold in earnest in a discounted model anytime soon.
