This year, Samsung changed its annual Unpacked event for the Galaxy S series from February to mid-January. It was not certain whether Samsung would maintain this schedule in the future, but new leaks indicate that the January Unpacked event will continue.
Korean site FN News (via Jukanlosreve) claims that Samsung will hold a Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco next January 23.
At the first Unpacked event of the year, Samsung is expected to unveil its next-generation Galaxy S25 series, including the base Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra. according to FNN, Samsung is also expected to announce the much-rumored Galaxy S25 Slim.
Previous reports indicated that Samsung would not release the Slim until April. However, it has been suggested that the Slim may be more of an experiment by Samsung, to be released in limited quality and see how people react. [However, Jukanlosreve has proven the accuracy of the leaked information.
Samsung confirmed in its Q3 earnings report that the Galaxy S25 series will arrive in early 2025, while also mentioning further foldable devices. According to that report, the S25 “plans to enhance the Galaxy AI experience and drive innovation in everyday life.”
It is not known what new Galaxy AI features Samsung will bring to the S25 series. One Samsung executive suggested that the personal assistant Bixby will include generative AI features.
Nevertheless, Samsung is expected to launch the Android 15-based One UI 7 alongside the S25 lineup. Samsung has announced that a “new Galaxy” will be launched in October 2024 with a UI upgrade; One UI 7 is expected to significantly revamp Samsung's Android skin; more details on One UI 7 will be revealed in late November when a beta version is expected to be released. More details on One UI 7 will be revealed in late November when the beta version is scheduled to be released.
We expect some design tweaks, but Samsung seems to be focusing more on software upgrades than hardware.
The S25 series will feature rounded corners on the handsets, a slightly larger display on the S25, a rounded back panel on the S25 Ultra, and all devices will run on Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
The S25 and S25 Plus are unlikely to have upgraded cameras from the S24 version, although there are rumors that Samsung will use a new camera sensor; the Ultra is said to use a 50MP sensor for both the ultra-wide angle lens and the secondary telephoto lens, which will be the same as the S 24 Ultra's current 12MP and may be a significant upgrade over the 10MP. The S25 Ultra may also feature a new telephoto camera with “variable functionality.”
Assuming the rumors are true and Samsung will hold Galaxy Unpacked on January 23, Tom's Guide will be there to test the latest Samsung smartphones in person and get all the latest news on Samsung's announcement.
