Good news for Gemini users with iPhones. Google has officially launched its standalone Gemini app. The launch marks another important step in Google's efforts to make its AI capabilities available to a wider audience while competing aggressively with Apple Intelligence.
“Today we are announcing a dedicated Gemini app for the iPhone,” said Brian Marquardt, Senior Director of Product Management at Gemini Experiences. “This will give iPhone users easy and free access to Google's personal AI assistant."
Previously available only through the Google app and web browser, Gemini now offers iPhone users its suite of features and now offers a dedicated platform for interacting with it. This puts it in line with what has been possible with Android for several months.
The app introduces a more intuitive and seamless way for users to access the AI assistant, allowing them to perform everyday tasks ranging from easy participation in creative projects to increased productivity. The update includes Gemini Live, a conversational AI experience that allows users to have natural, human-like conversations with chatbots. Available in 12 languages, including English, Spanish, French, and Hindi, Gemini Live supports multilingual conversations, with plans to expand language support in the near future. Not to be outdone by ChatGPT's advanced voice mode and Meta AI voice, users can choose from 10 different options to choose from to personalize Gemini's voice.
Google's new Gemini app focuses on improving learning as well as tools for creativity and daily productivity, something Google seems particularly invested in with Gems.
Gemini Live offers interruptible conversations, ideal for exploring new topics, brainstorming ideas, or preparing for job interviews. With enhanced learning tools, Gemini also serves as a learning companion that provides step-by-step instructions, tailored learning plans, and interactive quizzes. Whether you are mastering a complex topic or exploring a new concept, Gemini will adapt to your learning style and preferences. For example, you can upload a diagram and Gemini will generate a quiz to test your understanding.
In addition, users of the app can enhance their creativity with Gemini's Imagen 3, Google's latest high-quality image generation model. This feature allows users to turn text prompts into photorealistic images with amazing detail.
Creating images of people requires a subscription to Gemini Advanced, and even then, it is not possible to create images of real people.
Gemini works within the Google ecosystem, allowing users to connect with regularly used apps such as Gmail, Calendar, and Google Maps. Through the extension, users can access relevant information from these apps within a single conversation, potentially saving time and streamlining workflow.
With this announcement, Google is positioning Gemini as a personal assistant with multiple functions, rather than just a chatbot.
The Gemini app is currently available for download in the App Store, giving iPhone users worldwide the opportunity to explore the future of AI for work, study, and leisure.
