I don't do Wordle, but I guessed one of the hardest words in 2024 in just four attempts.

Wordle has become a daily ritual for many, with players eagerly sharing their streaks and bragging rights on social media. I never got on board with this trend. But after seeing today's Wordle answer (#1,244, Thursday, November 14) trending on X and seeing a colleague talking about losing his winning streak, I felt compelled to try it myself.

Why not hit it? To my surprise, I was able to guess the word “one of the hardest words in 2024” after only four attempts. To be honest, I didn't have much of a strategy. It was just pure luck. I don't claim to be an expert on Wordle, nor do I have any mastery over words.

If you're stuck for an answer or wonder how I came up with the answer in four guesses, here's a summary of what I did to come up with today's difficult word.

I'm about to reveal the answer and it will be a spoiler!

To be honest, my first guess was lucky. For no particular reason, it had a common letter and two vowels.

Once I had the L and A, I decided to take a little gamble with an uncommon word that most people probably wouldn't come up with for Wordle. I knew this answer would be difficult, so I opted for something more daring. dally “ was my second guess. No new letters appeared, but I was able to confirm that “L ‘ was in the correct position and ’A ” was incorrect.

Growing bolder, I pushed the boundaries further, focusing especially on words containing the unusual letters V and X. We next chose “villa,” which was actually risky given the word's lack of a double-L. Thankfully, however, our guesses were rewarded with confirmation that the word does contain a V, and that the L and A belong at the end.

This led us to the answer: uvula. A word unfamiliar to many, but one I had heard of (fleshy structures hanging down the back of the throat). Knowing this gave me some advantage and I was able to guess fairly quickly.

Again, I was not calculating probabilities or using advanced strategies like Wordle's wizards. I am definitely not a Wordle guru, but this little win felt like a fluke. In fact, I may end up playing Wordle more often just for the fun of it.
