iOS 18.2 Aims to Fix One of the Most Annoying Features of the Photos App

iOS 18.2 appears to have fixed one of the odd design elements in the Photos app, which we hope will please many users who have been frustrated with the recently released update.

With the release of iOS 18, Apple made changes and improvements to many core apps. One of these is Photos, which has undergone a complete UI revamp. Reaction to the changes was mixed, but that may soon change with the news that Apple will improve the video player in the next iOS 18.2 update.

In the current version of iOS 18, videos in the Photos app show a white or black border (depending on whether they are in light or dark mode) when first played, which can only be removed by tapping the video to enter full screen. However, 9to5Mac reports that this has changed in the latest iOS 18.2 beta version. Now, videos in the Photos app always appear in full screen, and tapping them only removes the control panel.

This is not a big change, in fact it is more of a step backwards as this was the same way videos worked in older iOS versions. I had no major problem with the way it worked in the current iOS, but enough people apparently disliked it enough to set Apple back. However, since this is a beta change, there is still no guarantee that this will be applied in the final public release of iOS 18.2.

iOS 18.2 not only brings changes to the Photos app, but also a significant number of promised Apple Intelligence features. For example, the recent public beta gave access to Visual Intelligence for the iPhone 16 series and the promised ChatGPT integration with Siri. The beta also provides access to Apple's Image Playground and Gemoji, allowing for easy image generation on the iPhone.

Since iOS 18.2 is a fairly major update, it is easy to miss the smaller changes. The video player may not bother everyone, but for those who disliked the original changes it will help make the best iPhone even better.
