Samsung, which continues to offer the best OLED TVs, may be offering a new larger size of QD-OLED panels in an 83-inch configuration next year.
This rumor stems from information leaked from Samsung's parts database, later released via FlatpanelsHD. The database references a 2025 Samsung TV model and indicates the specific panel used in that TV and its size range.
The database leak also suggests that Samsung's 2025 models will take the letter “F” as opposed to the “E” that follows the 2024 TV lineup. This means that the Samsung S95D OLED TV will get a major refresh next year as the Samsung S95F rather than the S95E, with a new 83-inch model.
These findings also suggest that the dreaded panel lottery in Samsung's 2025 TVs will rear its head again. The S95F in particular has received the most attention, as it may be offered in two different technologies, LG Display's WOLED panel and Samsung Display's QD-OLED panel.
Samsung's parts database, leaked to Reddit by U/ParkGGoki, shows several important speculations about the nature of the 2025 TV lineup. Most notable among them is a change in the naming of new TVs, possibly dropping the “E” in favor of an “F.”
This means that Samsung's 2025 TVs could be labeled F, i.e., Samsung S95F QD-OLED TV. It is also interesting to note that not only has a new 83-inch configuration of QD-OLED panels been discovered, but that the panel type may differ by size.
In the company's parts database, the models in question are listed as “QE83S95FATXXU” and “QE83S95FAEXXU.” The first string is clearly related to the size and model of the TV, and the last string, in this case “FAT” versus “FAE,” is related to the type of display panel.
In the world of OLED TVs, panels are key. The panel lottery is a major issue that buyers tend not to even know exists, and relates to the literal gamble involved in purchasing a new OLED TV. Samsung's 2024 OLED TVs suffered this same fate, with the Samsung S90D having different panel types depending on the size you buy.
Interestingly, the 83-inch S90D has a WOLED panel; the upcoming Samsung S90F may have a new Samsung Display panel, as Samsung's parts database indicates an 83-inch QD-OLED panel The next Samsung S90F may feature the new Samsung Display panel.
While another panel draw is not good news for consumers, it is worth noting that Samsung Display's QD-OLED panels will be larger, with the first 83-inch panel. This means that even though Sony has removed the A95L QD-OLED from its 2024 TV lineup, it may bring a larger QD-OLED to market in 2025.
