Next to the release of the new iPhone, the Samsung Galaxy S25 release date is arguably one of the biggest in the smartphone release calendar. Even if you are not interested in purchasing Samsung's next flagship, you are probably interested in what it has to offer and how it compares to the other best Android phones.
More than the previous generation, the Samsung Galaxy S25 will garner special interest thanks to Samsung's continued commitment to Galaxy AI as well as the fact that the entire lineup is expected to run on a Samsung-specific version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset may be. Given that early benchmark scores indicate that the chip will offer tremendous performance gains, we can't wait to see what the overclocked “for Galaxy” variant can achieve.
Besides, the Galaxy S25 series is expected to feature an iPhone-inspired design, with curved rather than right-angled edges, and perhaps even satellite connectivity to stay in touch with contacts (or emergency services) with or without cell service possible.
The Galaxy S25 probably won't arrive until early 2025. And while we don't have a guaranteed release date yet, there are several factors that can be used to guess when the phone will be sold and in the hands of Galaxy users. Thus, we can make a pretty good guess.
Our best guess as to when the Samsung Galaxy S25 will be released is as follows. Then we can decide whether we want to upgrade our current phone or hold out a little longer to get a brand new one.
Samsung is a creature of habit, and while some of the specific dates have changed over the years, it has still managed to release its flagship phones on a fairly consistent schedule. The first Galaxy Unpacked this year will take place at the end of January or early to mid-February and will focus on the new Galaxy S series phones.
The second Galaxy Unpacked, on the other hand, usually takes place in late summer, but the specific dates and windows tend to vary widely from year to year. These were previously reserved for the new Galaxy Note phablets, but have since been co-opted by Samsung's Galaxy Z series of foldable phones. This time, however, the focus is on the first Galaxy Unpacked of the year.
Looking at Samsung's Galaxy S release date schedule going back over the past five generations, it is a bit inconsistent. However, we can use this data to understand Samsung's preferences and determine the release date from there.
The first thing to note is that Samsung usually takes a little over two weeks from the Galaxy Unpacked launch event to the official release date, and they prefer to release these phones on Fridays. There are some inconsistencies in this trend: the Galaxy S20 took almost a month to release, but still stuck to a Friday release date.
The good news is that Samsung rarely, if ever, splits the release of its flagship Galaxy S models. The cheaper fan edition phones usually arrive much later, but still we should see the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra land on the same day. The rumored Galaxy S25 Slim may be another story, but we will have to wait and see what happens.
With the Galaxy S24, we heard a lot of rumors that Samsung would launch this phone early to take attention away from the iPhone 15. Nothing unusual happened regarding the release of the S24.
So far, Samsung has not confirmed when Galaxy Unpacked 2025 will take place, but reports from Korea indicate that the event will take place on January 23. It's not particularly early in the year, landing right in the middle of the last few launch windows, but it's not like we'll have to wait very long to actually see the Galaxy S25. That is, of course, if these reports are accurate.
We are inclined to believe that the January 23 date is accurate. Not only does it coincide with past Unpacked events, but there is enough time between Unpacked and CES 2025, which ends on January 10.
In the past, Samsung has used big tech shows as a venue for new smartphone launches, but the last time this happened was in 2018 with the Galaxy S9 launch at MWC in Barcelona. Since then, Samsung has used Unpacked events to announce new hardware, presumably to avoid sharing the spotlight with other companies and products.
January 23 is far enough away from CES and MWC that Samsung can more or less claim the spotlight for themselves. If this date is correct, the Galaxy S25 will likely be released about two weeks later, on February 6 or 7. Which date will depend on whether Samsung wants to adopt a launch-to-release timeline for the next two weeks or shift the new Galaxy flagship to a Friday release.
Frankly, it could well be either day, but the difference of one day would not matter much. Still, there is plenty of time to pre-order the Galaxy S25 after Unpacked and take advantage of any pre-order bonuses that Samsung and the cellular carriers might offer.
Until we hear otherwise, it seems quite likely that Galaxy Unpacked is scheduled to take place on January 23. This is a guess, but it is definitely in line with what Samsung has been doing for the past few years, which is that the Galaxy S25 should arrive in two weeks.
This is especially true if Samsung changes the Galaxy Unpacked date or announces a different date altogether. For the time being, however, we expect the Galaxy S25 should arrive in your hands either on February 6 or February 7.
